After back to back regattas in February plus the SKUD training camp with Anthony Kotoun, Team Paradise SKUD sailors JP Creignou and Jen French took a short break from on the water training. During the month of March, much emphasis was placed on boat work including improving the systems, repairs, and getting both boats up to speed.
Near the end of the month, Jen participated in the US Sailing Team Paralympic Classes camp at Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, AL. This was a full weekend of physical and psychological training in preparation for international competition. Physical testing and review of fitness programs was the focus of the weekend. In April we were back on the water to improve on the areas highlighted in the training camp with Anthony. We also sailed with Ralf Steitz, a world renown sailor, to get his input on the SKUD and how to improve the sailing performance. With fantastic breeze last week, we practiced our heavy air technique and even recorded a max speed of nearly 15 knots downwind while surfing down a wave!
On April 17th, Team Paradise participated in the Sail Expo held at the St. Petersburg Sailing Center to introduce local people with disabilities to the sport of sailing. Over 50 participates came out to enjoy the day at the sailing center and on the water.
