Performance Sailing with Spinnaker Endorsement
For those with sailing experience wishing to develop advanced sailing skills useful for racing and enjoyment. This is a 24-hour, three-day course with a maximum student-teacher ratio of 12-1. Course materials should be studied before class. Learn to rig and use the spinnaker, advanced docking maneuvers, refine close-hauled, beam and broad reach, and running before the wind with spinnaker. Sailors refine tacking and jibing maneuvers with spinnaker suitable for racing. Spinnaker hoists, reach to reach jibes, sailing by the lee, stretch and blow and floater takedowns, weather prediction, radio protocol, anchoring, and emergencies, advanced sail theory, sail shaping, and sail control use including vang, outhaul, backstays, twings, barber-haulers, jib & main cunningham, reefing, for light-medium-heavy air and transitions. Basic Part 2 (When Boats Meet) Racing Rules of Sailing. Upon successful completion of this course sailor will be deemed qualified to rent a small sailboat (under 30′) to race from most any yacht charter or sailing school in the US. One-Year US Sailing membership included.
Certification Requirements: The Performance Sailing Certification requires the successful completion of the following knowledge and skill requirements: How to analyze, adjust, and shape your sails for maximum speed; how to adjust the backstay and jib leads for optimum performance. This course brings your keelboat sailing skills to a new level without moving up to a bigger boat.
