NEVER LOOKED BETTER!

The past week proves that the weather forecast is often incorrect. Some people ask me what the weather will do on a given day. I usually say, “I can tell you tonight accurately.” It hurts when we cancel and later realize we could have sailed. Team Paradise canceled events on Wednesday due to windy and chilly weather predictions. We probably could have sailed. Our corporate regatta on Thursday had ideal wind conditions in the forecast but ended up light and shifty. Yesterday, our adult sailing school was on the verge of being canceled due to calm, but then the breeze began to fill in as we drifted away from the dock.

Today was supposed to be windy and cold, so we canceled with our beginner group earlier in the week. It was the right decision because this group of scholarship kids does not dress appropriately for chilly temperatures.

The final attendance number was eleven kids and four coaches. Coach Marite rigged one RS Venture for the beginner group. Coach Josh planned for three RS Fevas but settled for two boats. Before launching, they replaced a daggerboard seal damaged when running aground last week. It was an excellent idea for the kids to be involved in the repair so that they could see what happens when running aground.

It was a rare day as we never stopped at a sandbar. The kids sailed the entire time. Coach Marite had everyone try the helm and switch crew positions to keep everyone engaged. Coach Josh stayed with the Fevas while Coach Joe and I observed from the safety boat. They kids never looked better sailing than today!

How our Students Benefit

Spending time away from mobile devices and computer screens can benefit kids. Reducing screen time promotes healthier habits like physical activities and social interactions. Additionally, water activities can teach kids valuable life skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership. Overall, getting out on the water is an excellent way for kids to have fun, stay active, and learn essential life lessons.
