Fall 2020
2020 has left an indelible mark on our collective souls. The pandemic has changed our everyday lives, and we are finding more and more people turning to the outdoors for relief from the at-home virtual trend. We quickly realized that it is more important than ever to make sailing available to everyone and took this opportunity to promote sailing as a healthy outdoor and socially distant activity for our local community.
Youth Sailing Programs
Though limited in number due to social distancing requirements, this summer we were able to introduce and foster a love for sailing to local youth during our Bay Play Youth Sailing Camp, and this fall we established an After School Sailing program to give kids a chance to break away from distance learning and get out on the water. The goal of our youth program is to teach the basics of sailing in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere, and to cultivate a passion for the sport we love. Our designation as a US Sailing Siebel Center has given us the resources needed to offer sailing to under-resourced youth from our community, which has been incredibly rewarding and supports our mission to “Make Sailing Accessible to All!”

Accredited Sailing School
We have seen an increase in adults wanting to learn to sail! As a US Sailing Accredited Sailing School, we educate our sailors on basic sailing while they discover that it is a great activity for health and fitness. Here are some of the health benefits of sailing:
Unplug and Recharge: Are you tired of “Zooming?” In today’s digitally focused world, the best way to fully recharge, both mentally and physically, is to completely unplug from electronic devices. Sailing is a great way to unplug!
Salt Therapy: Seawater is rich in minerals that naturally nourish the skin, and exposure to salt-kissed ocean air has a calming effect on the body, and helps reduce stress anxiety. Breathing in sea breezes is good for the respiratory system. Basically, saltwater and ocean air are Mother Nature’s organic mood boosters.
Sunshine Vitamins: Obviously, too much sun is not recommended due to the harmful effects of ultra-violet radiation, but in addition to increased production of vitamin D, limited sunlight exposure triggers better moods and a boost in energy. Limited sun absorption can even help fight depression and lead to improved sleep.
Strengthen Relationships: Sailing together is your chance to talk, listen, share, bond, and most importantly—make new unforgettable memories together.

Veterans Sailing
We recently welcomed back veterans to our Veterans Adaptive Sailing Program. It is great to see our friends again! Team Paradise veterans recently sailed in the Columbus Day Regatta and finished 2nd in ARC2! Great job sailors! If you know a veteran with a disability who would like to experience the therapeutic and healing benefits of sailing, please send them our way!

Group Sailing Excursions
For those who just want to get out on the water and have someone else sail the boat, we offer sailing excursions where you bring your “quaranteam” and we provide the skipper, the lifejackets and the fun!

The Future Looks Bright for Team Paradise!
As we look toward the last quarter of this unforgettable year, Team Paradise Sailing is busy finding new ways to get people out sailing, and sharing the benefits of sailing amidst the current pandemic. Restrictions are slowly lifting, and we look forward to offering more sailing opportunities to youth and adults, to people with disabilities and youth from our under-resourced communities. Thank you so much for your support! We couldn’t do it without you!
