Sailing Through the Summer

Bay Play Summer Camp

Team Paradise’s Summer Sailing Camp Session 1 was a unique and unforgettable experience.  12 eager young participants spent 10 days at the US Sailing Center to discover what we hope will become a lifetime hobby.

Special thanks go out to our instructional team:

  • Natalia Acebo -- Land-Based STEM Educator and Water Safety Instructor

  • Moises Alfonso – Safety Boat Operator and Social Media Specialist

  • Marite’ Felix – Sailing Instructor

  • Cory Regan – Sailing Instructor

 Together our campers learned:

  • Teamwork

  • Points of sail

  • Parts of the boat

  • Rigging and de-rigging boats

  • Capsizing and recovery

  • Reading the wind and the tide

  • Unique features of Biscayne Bay

  • Issues that arise from plastic pollution

By the end of their time at Team Paradise, friendships were formed and lessons were learned about the sport of sailing, about the surrounding environment, and ultimately they learned a bit more about themselves.  They left camp graduation with a well-deserved sense of accomplishment and can now call themselves “Sailors”.

Congratulations Team!  We are so proud of you!

Take a look at how much fun we had…..
