SYSTEM S7-E7

marine debris

Today was supposed to be the last episode of the fall session. However, we had to cancel one Saturday due to hurricane-like conditions, so we have one more Saturday to go before the Fall session is complete.

The conditions were near perfect with about 15 kn of breeze out of the east. The wind was supposed to increase, so we wanted to sail early. A few of our regular sailors were missing, but there were still 27 people out on the water, including students, coaches, and counselors. Chris filled in for Josh, coaching the Next Level sailors using the Boston Whaler. We had both our RS   Ventures out there looking good. The rest of us were in our propeller-less safety boat. Our SYSTEM sailors started in the classroom with module six, which was about marine debris.

Without a video photographer, I doubled up driving the safety boat with an old-fashioned GoPro strapped to my head. You’ll see the result in the video below. Luckily, I had Maren from Germany shoot the pictures. The video may be lengthy, but it will show those interested in what we did during this beautiful day. Editing a video takes a long time, so I cut it short. See for yourselves.

We returned to the port before all other boats arrived to use the crane at the US Sailing Center. When we finished storing the boats away, we all went upstairs to the breezeway for the award ceremony, handing out diplomas and medals to the system sailors; notably, Principal Simmons from CARE Elementary was cheering us on. So was Pat Downey, the executive director of the US Sailing Center

We look forward to seeing everybody next week. Be sure to bring wet shoes to protect your feet. We will stop at the sandbar or Paradise Island 305.

NEXT LEVEL HOMEWORK

Consider this homework. I’m urging the NEXT LEVEL sailors to scroll to the bottom of the page and study what‘s there.

LET’S HAVE FUN, BE SAFE AND LEARN A BUNCH

Lining up! This is what’s you should look like. Each boat is not overlapped, but at the very least, they are in the same picture frame, the sails are trimmed correctly and they are all pointing in somewhat the same direction. Let's do it!
