HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome back for another year of fun and safe learning with Team Paradise Sailing. More than 90% of our SYSTEM students from 2024 returned with smiling faces and full of enthusiasm. Several parents joined in for the introductions. We enjoyed introducing a few new students and our new STEM teacher, Miss Justine. During the week, she is a STEM teacher at MAST Academy on Virginia Key. Our STEM teachers, Miss Raissa and Miss Justine are Miami natives.
The US Sailing Center is a busy place this time of the year. The US SAILING team has a training camp; there was an Etchells and Viper regatta this weekend. Add a bunch of coach boats and coaches. The good news is that our kids see all these hot, looking boats and the tremendous athletes who sail them. They act as role models for our students!
When in doubt, don’t go out!
The weather forecast for the day called for a cold front moving over our area, and a small craft advisory was in effect. Sure enough, at about 11:45 AM, we had our RS ventures in the water with sails hoisted. The RS Fevas were about ready to get launched. The Front was now above us, the sky looked threatening, the wind had picked up, and the temperature had dropped. That's when I decided to cancel the sailing for our SYSTEM kids. When in doubt, don't go out. The main reason for canceling was the air temperature and the lack of proper clothing for these conditions. Had we gone out sailing, the kids would have been freezing and miserable, and I certainly didn't wanna put them through that phase.
The Next-level sailors went out as planned. Coaches Josh and Mo in our Boston Whaler did a fantastic job using three RS Fevas and trading off skippers and crew so that everybody got to sail. They had fun, and they all became better sailors than they were this morning.
It’s a win-win
Thank you, volunteers, students, teachers, parents/caregivers, and benefactors for making my dream come true. Removing any of the categories above would have prevented our achievements today from happening. Thank You!

NEXT LEVEL HOMEWORK
Consider this homework. I’m urging the NEXT LEVEL sailors to scroll to the bottom of the page and study what‘s there. From now on, we have to line up together every Saturday we sail
LET’S HAVE FUN, BE SAFE AND LEARN A BUNCH
