Veterans Sailing

Dreams come trough

Call it a vision or a dream, you want it bad enough, it can happen. It’s about never giving up! Ask our most recent veterans sailing participant, JC. He will tell you that he kept calling Team Paradise for about four months wanting to go sailing and today we finally did!

Team Paradise lost its main financial support for Veterans sailing when Miami Dade Parks came up short with a federal grant that we have benefitted from for the last few years. The good news is that we are encouraged by our local Miami VA Hospital to keep our Veterans Sailing program alive and continue our program until new income sources become available.

FInding a positive

The good news is that without the adaptive sports grant restrictions on only having disabled Veterans participate, we are now free to invite anyone we want. It’s equally gratifying to serve first responders and veterans’ family members. JC is one example of that. His father is a Vietnam Veteran. JC suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was 6-years old. He makes everyone forget their pains and aches! He is full of humor and a very positive person. And yes, he can trim the jib!
