Siebel Sailors Program #1
Intermediate Morning Session
It was a great day in all regards! Perhaps a bit windy, but that is what the kids need in the intermediate session. The NE breeze gusted up to 26 Kts as we sailed across the bay on a long port tack. the destination was the West Point of Key Biscayne. We had four kids, two in each Feva. Once we arrived, we immediately turned around for a spectacular reach back to port.
It’s great to see how kids respond to training, how quickly they learn, and how much better they get, even after a 2-hour sail!
Afternoon Session for Beginners
The afternoon session was pretty windy and about the same as in the morning. Kids from Breakthrough Miami and CARE Elementary joined in with our regular group today for a sail across the bay. Just like in the morning we sailed one long port tack to the West Point of Key Biscayne. Indifference to the morning, we anchored up and had some in-the-water fun! The weather was threatening all along. After a quick weather check with the office, we lifted anchor and reached back to port while being chased by a big black cloud. There was no lightning, but we needed to get back quickly.
We made it back safely and then the rain came in. Some of the kids were shivering, but no worries. US Sailing Team handed out some dry shirts and sailing gloves and took a Team picture for their clothing sponsor (Gill).
